God's Standard for Goodness
Most people probably believe they are good enough to enter heaven. If you ask them why they believe they are good, they might say something like this: "I never murdered anyone, never committed adultery and I never robbed a bank." Let's find out if you are a good enough person to enter heaven.
The Ten Commandments is God's standard for goodness. Let's see if you are good enough to go to heaven. I'll mention five commandments here. Ever steal anything? Doesn't matter how small or large. Ever lie to anyone? Ever hate anyone? Jesus said hate is like murder. Ever look at anyone with lust? Lust in your heart is considered by God to be adultery. Ever disobey your parents? If you said yes to any of those things, then you broke at least one of God's commandments and your name will not be listed in the book of life, therefore you must one day stand before God and receive your punishment for sin, the lake of fire.
"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire" (Revelation 20:15).
Why did God give us the Ten Commandments if we couldn't keep them? He gave us the Ten Commandments to give us a guideline for living a holy life and to prove to us that because of are fallen sinful nature, it is impossible for us to keep the Ten Commandments unless we receive a radical holy transformation. Romans 3:23 declares we're all sinners. We are born sinners, incapable of obeying His law of commandments, therefore we need a savior to deliver us from our sinful nature and God's wrath so we can walk in righteousness, obey the Ten Commandments and be qualified to spend eternity in heaven. It is through Christ we receive a radical holy transformation, enabling us to keep God's holy commandments.
So God in His mercy has provided you an escape from eternal damnation through the work of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ paid the price for your sins to be forgiven. He died on the cross and was raised from the dead. To be saved from God's eternal punishment, to receive a new nature capable of obeying God's laws and to receive a glorious inheritance only found in Christ, pray the following prayer with sincerity:
